Frequently Asked Questions

No. The self-regulating gas piston system, along with the barrel nut and piston cup and designed for use as a complete system. We do sell the complete upper receiver groups for those who want to use their own lower receiver.

No. As the piston system is proprietary, the VK-1 Handguard was designed around the system and stabilizes the piston assembly.

We supply the carbine buffer and spring to run the widest operational envelope of ammunition and suppressors available. You can change the buffer weight based on your setup, but you must personally confirm it operates correctly. We make no guarantee the system will operate initially or continuously as designed with a heavier buffer or stiffer spring regardless of brand. The self-regulating gas system and long advanced cam path negate the need for this type of tuning.

Although the system has been tested to operate with the widest variety of commercially available suppressors, for best recoil mitigation, the “high-flow” designs come highly recommended. This, coupled with the VK-1 Gas piston system set the end user up for best performance.

Depending on your setup, you may have to drop buffer weights, especially if you are running the DI carrier unsuppressed.

No. The VK-1 comes with a standard Mil-Spec Bolt.

Despite common lore, gas piston designs do not eliminate all gas. There is residual gas in the chamber and barrel, and it still exits at the ejection port, at ejection. This, however, is a reduced amount compared to standard direct impingement rifles.

Both bolts are made of 9310 steel alloy. The Combat Match Bolt has slightly larger 0.114” lugs (larger range of Milspec tolerance) and two rounds of shot-peening. The standard bolt has industry-standard 0.106” lugs (which are middle range of Milspec tolerance) and receives one round of shot-peening before nitride finishing.

The Thin, Dense Chrome, coating reduces the flaking which is more common in Hard Chrome plating. In addition it provides an extremely lubricous surface which is easy to clean.

Currently we are not discussing design and R&D project with the public.
